Government Regulation of Business

This course focused on the law and economics of antitrust policy in the United States and was highly interdisciplinary in nature. The course covered competition policy in the United States; private enforcement; monopoly, monopsony, and cartel cases; mergers and vertical integration; and various other concepts in antitrust economics and competition law.

International Trade
 

This course provided a general overview of theory, policy and institutions of international trade. In this course, I analyzed gains and losses from trade; the effects of trade on income distribution; foreign outsourcing; tariffs, quotas, and export subsidies; and trade policies.

Econometrics
 

This course covered the statistical tools needed to understand empirical economic research. The emphasis was on understanding the theoretical concepts that are used by economists to summarize, communicate, and estimate economic relationships and to evaluate policy. Topics included statistical inference, simple and multiple regression analysis with cross-sectional data, hypothesis testing, and OLS asymptotics.

Intermediate Microeconomics & Macroeconomics

Macroeconomics covered introductory macro models that explain the relationships between variables such as the unemployment rate, national income, and price levels. It broadly explored both the short-run in order to examine business cycles and the long-run to analyze the determinants of economic growth. Microeconomics covered an introduction to theory and used differential analysis to solve optimization problems. It also looked at firm profit maximization/cost minimization in competitive markets, and imperfect competition and general equilibrium analysis.
